How to play The Soviet Anthem on Saxophone

On this page, we'll be learning how to play The Soviet Anthem on Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone or Soprano Saxophone!

Composed by Alexander Alexandrov in 1938, this melody became the national anthem of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in 1949 after a contest in which it beat more than 200 other entries. It replaced The Internationale as the State Anthem of the Soviet Union and was used until 1991. The anthem used various sets of lyrics over the decades, as well as a period from 1956-1977 when it was performed without words. In some post-Soviet states such as Ukraine and Lithuania, performing the Soviet anthem is now illegal due to laws banning Communist symbolism.
