How to play Mad World on Saxophone

On this page, we'll be learning how to play Mad World by Tears For Fears on Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone or Soprano Saxophone!

Originally released in 1982 by British band Tears For Fears, Mad World became their first hit single and brought them international success. Songwriter Roland Orzabal had written the song at the age of just 19, inspired by new wave tracks such as Duran Duran's "Girls On Film".

Twenty years later, Mad World had a resurgence of popularity after a stripped-down cover version was recorded by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the soundtrack of Donnie Darko (2001). Andrews and Jules recorded the cover in an hour and a half, and later released it as a single after the film's cult popularity led to demand for the song. Their version led to an Ivor Novello Award for Orzabal as the songwriter of the Best Selling UK Single of 2003.
