Written in 1875 by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" ("Dovregubbens hall") was originally composed as part of the incidental music for the play Peer Gynt, where it was heard as the title character entered the domain of the fearsome troll king. In the two centuries since, it has been used and adapted in countless other works, becoming one of the most iconic and recognisable pieces of classical music in the Western world.
