It was composed by John Williams and first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). The theme was influenced by existing compositions by classical composers Chopin and Holst. The Imperial March is used as a leitmotif, recurring throughout the Star Wars films to represent the tyrannical Empire, Darth Vader, and Anakin Skywalker.
